I love everything about Summer and without a doubt it’s my favourite season. One of the main things I love is the clothes! I love how you can get more experimental with your outfits, get your legs out and not have to take out a second mortgage (I’m talking about the excessive amount of money we spend on boots and coats during the A/W season- am I right or am I right?). So although we still haven’t seen the worst weather of A/W17 yet, in the fashion world we’re already moving on to SS18, queue the press shows!
I was kindly given the opportunity to attend the George at Asda SS18 press event show on Thursday, which was held at 6-10 Whitfield Street London. George are becoming more and more fashion-forward as a brand so it was great to get a sneak peak into what they’ll be releasing for Spring/Summer. In this blog post I’m going to give you a full run down of the key womenswear trends for the season and also my favourite pics!
Trend 1: Western
First up is the ‘Western’ trend which has been really big on the catwalk. I loved all the detailing on the items in this trend: tassles, fringing, studs, you name it! There’s definitely some more statement pieces but also loads of items which are a bit more subtle if you don’t want to go too Western/Boho. My top pics were the studded jeans, the cream fringed jumper and the striped summer dress!
Trend 2: Monochrome
The second trend on show at the event was a ‘Monochrome’ trend. Out of all of them, this was definitely my favourite! I suppose I’m a sucker for anything white and black. There were some lovely beach cover ups and holiday pieces, but for me I was drawn to a gorgeous black and white gingham dress and an amazing floral pyjama style two-piece. Out of everything I think this two piece was my top pic of the whole day, I can’t wait to see it in store/online!
Trend 3: Soft Romance
If you love pretty pastels, this next trend is definitely for you! This screamed Spring to me and it was getting me excited for wearing pretty blouses and dresses again instead of thick jumpers and coats. My top pics from this trend are the powder blue strappy dress and the sheer mesh floral top. I think the blue strappy dress would be such an amazing item to style- add a biker jacket to add a bit of edge to it, pop a t-shirt underneath to layer it, or just to wear on it’s own on holiday!
Trend 4: Mexicana
This is another trend which is heavily influenced from the catwalk and is perfect for high summer! Now, as I’ve previously said, I’m a monochrome kinda girl so these items are a bit scary for me as they’re very bright and colourful. I think I’ve decided that I can handle print and I can handle bright colours, but not necessarily when they’re together. But there were couple of bright culottes in yellow and cobalt blue which caught my eye and I think would be really wearable so I might step out of my comfort zone with these!
Trend 4: Mykonos
This is the final big womenswear trend and just screams ‘Instagrammable holiday in Greece’ to me. The range is full of blues, denims, bright whites and pops of red which would make the perfect holiday wardrobe. Out of everything, there was a beautiful white dress with blue embroidery that I loved and a super soft denim summer dress which I thought was beautiful and such good value for only £14!
As I used to work on the Accessories buying team at George I might be sightly bias, but seriously the Footwear/Accessories at this press event were amazing! They’ve definitely stepped things up and the details were so intricate and pretty. I think my favourite item was the embellished denim clutch and the black studded circle bag. There were also loads of cute statement earrings, which are obviously really big right now, and a beautiful headscarf displayed which would be the perfect summer holiday accessory!
Swimwear: Holiday Shop
Finally, let’s talk swimwear! It may seem crazily early to be thinking about swimwear but George have some lovely pieces coming up for Summer. Before I hadn’t been too keen on the swimwear they sold as it wasn’t very fashion forward whereas the pieces that are coming through for next year are perfect! My top pics for swimwear include this all black swimsuit with gold detailing and this Khaki bikini set with the cute palm leaf two piece set.
Overall I think George have really stepped up their game! They’re still managing to be commercial and aim towards their target market but are now also appealing to the more fashion forward consumer looking for new and exciting trends. There are so many pieces here that I would personally love to own and I will definitely be keeping an eye out for them once they go online/ in store. I also feel that there is a lot of variety in the different trends they displayed so there is something for everyones personal taste and style! Plus, they are still holding their low prices which I think is great as the quality is so good making the range amazing value.
In addition to the beautiful clothes there was also a complimentary nail bar, food and refreshments and two very instagrammable real flower walls which would of been perfect for having your picture taken in front of (I’m actually really upset I didn’t manage to get one now). Finally, when I left I was given a complimentary gift which was a lovely red coat which will be perfect for adding a bit of colour to my winter wardrobe!
All in all I had a lovely time at the George SS18 press event and I can’t wait to see all the products online and in store.
Until next time
