If you’ve read my post ‘Black Betty- Retailer Review’ then you’ll know that I sometimes find it challenging being a fashion blogger on a budget and I’m sure many others feel the same. So, I thought I’d do a post with my top tips on how to make your money go further as a fashion blogger. This post can also be totally relatable to those who don’t blog but just love fashion as much as I do!

1. Discount codes

Discount codes can be an UH-MAZING way to save money. Online retailers like Missguided, PLT, Boohoo, Misspap, Nasty Gal, Lasula Boutique etc often have amazing discounts, ranging from the standard 10% off to often up to 50% off everything. If you give yourself enough time and can afford to wait it out, it’s best to hold out until they have a fab offer on. I’ve definitely been one to learn from my mistakes as there’s been times when I’ve done a full order with 10% off and the next day they’ve announced 40% off across the whole site…woops. Oh well, we live and learn!

2. Don’t spend too much on ‘trend’ items

Trends come and go and it can be easy to spend a lot on an item which is only going to be around for one season, so make sure you do your research before investing. For me personally I will tend to spend more on staple items like jeans etc, because they don’t tend to go out of fashion and I get a lot of wear out of them. However, for fashion items that I know will only be around for one season I’ll spend less and opt to buy them from cheaper retailers such as Primark, H&M or online retailers such as Missguided or Boohoo. Long story short, don’t waste your money on trend items that don’t look like they’ll stick around.

3. 2nd-hand clothes apps

2nd hand clothing apps can be an amazing way to find clothing at absolute bargain prices, whilst also helping the environment by recycling…winner. I’m currently on an app called Mercari, which is used by a lot of fashion bloggers who sell clothes that have often only ever been worn for photos and quite a lot of the time still have the tags in! This can be a great way to get cheap clothes that are often still retailing for full price online. You can shop my Mercari page by searching ‘Robyn Poppy’ on the app.

4. Get creative with styling

Make the most of your wardrobe. Well not the wardrobe specifically, but the clothes in it. Getting creative with styling and mixing up outfits can be a great way to produce fresh looks without having to buy anything new. I can’t count the number of times that the same pair of mom jeans have appeared on my Instagram feed, paired with different items!

5. Get organised

Finally, the last tip is just to be organised with your money. Set out how much per month etc. that you can use for buying new or second hand clothes and stick to it. Also try and save money per month so that if there’s one month where you need to spend more then you’ve got some savings. Another method (if you’re not mega big on online shopping) is to get a set amount of cash out per week/month and only use that for buying clothes only- plus any excuse to buy a new purse ey! I’m currently using a new purse that I was sent from Wallet King which you can shop here.

..and that’s it! I hope you found this post useful and there were some handy tips that you feel you can use to save money! Let me know if you have any extra’s as I’m always up for finding new ways to save money!

Until next time,

  2. Lovely purse! Since moving out I have got so much better at not splashing out. I do need to get better at not splashing out on silly items of clothing that go out of fashion though and splashing out on the ones that will stick around like you said! Xx

Thanks girl! Yess I’ve done it before then only worn something once or twice and it can be such a waste of money! xx

  3. Ummm can we talk about how good that drink looks? The ‘waiting for discounts’ tip is way too close to home, the amount of times I thought I was getting a good deal and the next day there’s an even better one! I have to admit, if I haven’t worn the clothes yet, I send them back and reorder so that I get the balance back!- x

It’s amazing right! If you’re ever in London make sure you take a visit to AIDA Shoreditch. Yess I’ve done that as well too, gotta get the good discounts!! x

  4. i recently started using Depop again and second hand shops. You find lil gems that no one else has! Also it’s quite fun because I’m shopping for my style rather than what’s trendy. Second hand shops don’t really have on trend styles, but they do have timeless or quirky pieces.

Thanks for this! That purse is goooorgeous!
