One topic that I always personally love reading on other people’s blogs is hotel and travel recommendations. I think it’s great to be able to read in-depth reviews which offer more than just a couple of lines, like the reviews often left on sites such as Trip Advisor etc. Last weekend I stayed at Point A Hotels’ Shoreditch branch for the night and experienced their ‘A-list’ package including entry and drinks at partner Ballie Ballerson and dinner at Mcqueen Shoreditch. The experience was complimentary in return for an honest review, and that’s completely what I promise to give here! To make it super simple I’ll split it out into sub sections and give ratings out of 5 (*except for price).

In the full name of disclosure I didn’t pay for this hotel stay but price is SO important so it obviously needs to be mentioned and the majority of these ratings will be based on value, which is always relative to price! So I’ve looked at a Saturday night stay over a few weekends in the next couple of months and the prices on the website and booking.com come out starting from £110-£180, dependant on the weekend, for a double bedroom with a window for the night (Extra if you add on the £9 breakfast). For London I think that’s really reasonable as you can easily spend up to 400+ per night in certain hotels (Definitely not me personally though!).

So let’s talk location! It was about a 5 minute walk to the centre of Shoreditch and really close to Ballie Ballerson and Mcqueen Shoreditch. It was also around a 10 minute walk from the tube and only around 2 miles from central London so ideal for visiting the big city! It can be quite difficult when visiting London to find a hotel in a great location without paying an arm and a leg so this is a really great find for this aspect. So based against the price of the hotel I’d definitely give the location a 5/5.

Hotel décor

Quirky, modern with a bright scandi edge, I loved the décor in the Point A Hotel A Shoreditch. It’s modern throughout and everything feels really fresh and clean! They also have a really fun mural in the entrance and we had a mini version in our room. 5/5 for this point!

The Room

The room was really bright, clean and airy with modern décor throughout. There were also some great features like fold down shelves to optimise space and mood lighting. However, on that note the room was undeniably small and there wasn’t that much room to manoeuvre around between myself and my boyfriend, plus no wardrobe. Also the bodywash had ran out and hadn’t been replaced (such a niggly thing I know but I promised to be honest). But in general It’s hard to really complain about these aspects as it isn’t a luxury hotel and the price is really reasonable for central London so I think as long as you know that before booking then you won’t be at all disappointed. Plus there are also rooms without windows that look bigger and are also cheaper so it depends what your priority is! But due to the size and toiletries I’d give it a 3/5.

The breakfast is an added extra of £9 but for that you get an unlimited continental buffet with a lot of choice including fresh fruit, granola pots, cereals, pastries etc. It would’ve been amazing for there to maybe be some meats/cheeses available as well but I wasn’t really fussed by this and I was more than happy with the breakfast choices for the price! You can easily buy a coffee and croissant in costa for that amount so it’s really great value for money when you break it down!

I couldn’t really fault this! The staff were really lovely, attentive and just generally polite and accommodating throughout. An easy 5/5 here.

The hotel partners

Point A runs an ‘A List’ that you can sign up to, to unlock extra benefits and savings! They describe it on their website as below-

‘Benefit from exclusive offers and discounts on food and drink within our handpicked favourite bars & restaurants all just a short walk from our hotel. Just flash your A-List card on arrival. Bring your kit and train while you stay with Point A with complimentary access to our local gym partner. You’ll be the first to hear about the exciting things we like to do here at Point A such as new competitions where you can win fantastic prizes courtesy of us, or whenever we feel like being extra generous (which is quite often). ‘

From being part of the Point A ‘A-List’ you can get 10% off your booking on PointAHotels.com, access to flexible rates, available only on the website and nowhere else and exclusive offers and deals with their partnering companies. As part of the Point A Shoreditch A-List package they sent me to local partners Balli Ballerson for drinks and to Mcqueen Shoreditch for food, which was a lovely addition to the hotel stay!

Ballie Ballerson

Adult ball pits? Whats not to love?! It massively took me back to going to my local ‘wacky warehouse’ ball pit when I was a kid. Anyone else used to love the ball bits when they were little? The adult version is full of instagrammable opportunities making it a massive photo fest for anyone there (I ended up taking pictures for a couple of different people under a very instagrammable neon tree arch at one point!). It also had some amazing fancy cocktails- I had one which came with a packet of dib dab which tasted SO good. But just a note to get there early as it was already very busy when we got there at 6pm and beware of very drunk people at early hours! I also think they should definitely expand and add more to it! (Ball pit obstacle course anyone?!).

Dinner at Mcqueen

I thoroughly enjoyed the dinner and drinks that we had at Mcqueen Shoreditch. The food was great, the pineapple daiquiris were a dream and the service was amazing. Plus it had a great vibrant atmosphere! If you fancy staying out after your dinner as well there’s also a bar downstairs which was super busy, playing sing along chart toppers by the time we left at around 11pm (I was ready for bed after my cocktails!) But overall a really good experience so a 5/5 here.

Overall, both my boyfriend and I had a lovely time at Point A hotel Shoreditch. The location was amazing, the staff were really accommodating, I loved the interior and the partner experiences as part of their ‘A lister’ packages were really fun! The only thing that let it down slightly was the room size but for the price and location for a 1-2 night stay it was really good value. Therefore overall I’d rate the experience a 4/5 and based on this would definitely recommend to anyone looking to stay near central London.

Until next time,

Love this review Robyn! I recently reviewed their Canary Wharf hotel which fortunately had a bigger rooms. It didn’t however, have breakfast which I am VERY jealous about – the selection looks so delicious!
